Linebacker Jeff Tarpinian, a rookie undrafted free agent, made the New England Patriots’ roster. Nine rookies from Iowa made NFL squads. They are Donahue, Reisner, Sash, Vandervelde, Tarpinian, and draftees Christian Ballard, Adrian Clayborn, Karl Klug and Ricky Stanzi.

By my count, 37 ex-Hawkeyes are currently on NFL teams. Among those who were late cuts this weekend are safety Brett Greenwood (Pittsburgh), running back Albert Young (Jacksonville), lineman Matt Kroul (N.Y. Jets), and defensive linemen Ken Iwebema (Arizona) and Colin Cole (Seattle).

IOWA CITY, IOWA – - When the Universities of Iowa and Nebraska meet on the football field this fall as Big Ten Conference rivals for the first time, the game will take place on Friday, Nov. 25, the day after Thanksgiving.

Iowa Defensive Coordinator Norm Parker will once again be roaming the sidelines at the Insight Bowl thanks to the University of Iowa Mechanical Engineering department. Parker, who missed time earlier this year and had to have his right foot amputated due to complications from diabetes, has been outfitted with a specialized walker/exoskeleton that will allow the coach to maintain his traditional presence with the players, as well as lift objects of up to two tons in weight. Professor Karoly Maciek explained the project: “The Coaching Vehicular Robot V2.0, or CVR-2 as we call it around the lab, will give Coach Parker the support and mobility he needs to maintain his traditional post on the sideline at the Insight Bowl. It will also allow him to throw a VW Bug 50 yards through the air.”

After 30 years, Iowa opponents still think pink at Kinnick Stadium

For over three decades, opponents entering the locker room at Iowa’s Kinnick Stadium have felt like they just walked into a dollhouse. The space is coated floor to ceiling in bubblegum pink, even in the bathrooms, from pink sinks to lockers that look better suited for Barbies than 300-pound linemen.

What is a program decked in black and gold doing with a pink locker room? As the familiar legend has it, former Hawkeye coach Hayden Fry, a psychology major, ordered the makeover when he took over in 1978 in an effort to create a soothing effect on opponents. Jails have employed the same technique.
